Fabulous day on Sunday 3 August hosting the Royal Bar Open Pairs sponsored by Martin & Liz from The Royal, Innellan.

48 bowlers from Cowal, Bute & Essex played 5 x games of 5 x ends to determine the winners of each section.

Following very exciting semi finals between Ian & Christine Goffin -v- Claire & Brian Robertson of Kirn & Hunters Quay Bowling Club & Lorna Anderson & Ben Jackson of Kirn & Hunter's Quay BC -v- Willie Wilson of Kirn & Hunter's Quay BC & Terry Walker of Bogleha BC. The finalists were Brian's Pair & Terry's pair.

The final started with Willie & Terry going 3 up after 2 ends & then losing a 4 to Claire & Brian. They never really recovered from this & Claire & Brian went on to win the Royal Bar Open Pairs for 2025 sponsored by the Royal Bar.

Commiserations to Willie & Terry but super well done to Kirn's Claire & Brian taking the shield.

A lovely day was had by all & I have to thank the Innellan members who worked so hard to ensure that the day was a success. You all worked your socks off & I don't have to say who. Thank you all.

Thanks also to our friend James Rippey & his mates from Essex, to Kirn & HQ for sending 11 pairs today & to those who stepped in to fill call- offs.
We couldn't have done this without you all.

The Club appreciates the support.

Good luck to everyone playing in the Dunoon Tournament this week.

Last & certainly not least super well done to the Cowal teams who competed at Ayr this week & put our wee corner of Scotland on the map.

A great big thank you to you all.

(click pictures to enlarge)

As Host Club for Cowal this year President John welcomed 40 bowlers from all six Cowal Clubs to our Green on Friday 9 May to play in the Argyll & Bute Women's Bowling Association Fundraiser. We did have quite a few uninvited guests (midges) too unfortunately but we coped.

The format was 3 x games of 6 x ends with the highest scoring team being Claire Robertson, Charlotte Lorimer, Brian Robertson & Ben Jackson from Kirn & Hunter's Quay BC. The only team to win all three games, congratulations to them.

A huge thanks to our members who helped in any way to prepare for this event.

The evening finished up with a delicious supper & large raffle (thanks to all Clubs for providing prizes).

The total amount handed over to A&BWBA to help with their travel etc was £339. Helen McVicar then gave a vote of thanks on behalf of the ladies.

Haste ye back!

Special prize winners:

Although I ordered the sunshine for our Ladies Day, I didn't expect it to be the hottest day of the year.

I think the heat affected most of us but we got through it.

24 ladies from all six Cowal Clubs congregated on our Green on Sunday 8 September to play for the McLay Cup. The format was 12 pairs playing 5 games of 5 ends with the highest 4 teams going on to the semis.

The pairs who qualified were:-

Lydia Moodie (Ardentinny )& Anne Margaret Houston (Dunoon Argyll), Cathy Smith (Bogleha) & Elsbeth Brint (Ardentinny), Joan Evans (Ardentinny) & Karen Prevett (Innellan)& Mary Brooks (Dunoon Argyll)& Isabel Lauder (Bogleha).

The final was a super game which was decided in an extra end.

Congratulations to Joan & Karen who lifted the trophy with Lydia & Anne Margaret being the deserving runners up.

The special prizes were won by Evelyn Pullar (Upper Cowal) & Louise Cannon (Dunoon Argyll)

Thanks to our wonderful men who looked after us all day & to our caterer Andrew who served us a feast. Lots of goodies bags were available.

Kirn & Hunter's Quay BC with President John

Our sponsor Martin Donnelly from The Royal Bar
with the proud winners Rachel & Cammy.

The Club held its Open Pairs today with 48 bowlers from Cowal & Rothesay.
Thankyou to all who entered with a special mention to Kirn & Hunters Quay Bowling Club who sent along 12 pairs & Rothesay with 4.

It was only right then that the final was between pairs from both of these Clubs & a very exciting final it was.

Well done to both pairs as they played through the pouring rain.

Rachel Gillies & Cammy Boyd from Kirn took on David & Kieron Reynolds from Rothesay with Kirn taking the shield by one shot.

Congratulations to them all & to the semi finalists from Dunoon Argyll (Craig Houston & Stevie Girvan) & Paige Gillan & Andy Scott from Kirn.

Thanks also to all the workers today as without these folks our clubs just wouldn't survive.

Last but certainly not least thanks once again to Martin & Liz of the Royal Bar, Innellan for their continued sponsorship.

Have to mention also that it was great to see Rachel hugging her shield as we dropped her off at home. Winning that first cup is always very special.

THANKYOU TO CO-OPERATIVE FUNERALCARE - DUNOON

The Club was delighted to receive 12 bowling mats and 12 scorecard holders from the Dunoon Branch of Co-op Funeralcare.

This has been a great boost to the Club as several of our mats are rather the worse for wear.

President John was happy to welcome Scott Richmond, Manager, to accept this kind donation.

THE MEG HENRY MEMORIAL ROSEBOWL

A grand day was had at the Club on Sunday 10th August when a very friendly tournament took place in memory of Meg Henry - a stalwart supporter of the Club. Along with members of Meg's family, there was a mixed group of tennis players from IBTC and Castle Tennis Club. The weather was very kind and the outcome of the day was that honours were shared between IBTC and Castle. Lauren Black (Castle) and Roan Wright (IBTC) being the winning pair and Kat Ross (IBTC) and Jaroslaw Michalak (Castle) being the runners up.

Innes (Meg's grandson) presented the Meg Henry Rosebowl to the winners along with a congratulatory tube of tennis balls. All in all, a lovely day!

Haste ye Back!

THE MEG HENRY MEMORIAL ROSEBOWL

Just a wee minder about Meg's Rosebowl Tournament next Sunday the 10th August (1pm for a 1.30pm start). This is an informal, friendly competition where it's lovely to meet up with folk. We play tennis and enjoy an afternoon tea as well. It would be grand if you could let Elaine Marshall know if you can manage along. If you can come, a wee food contribution to the tea would be greatly appreciated. I'm really hoping the weather smiles kindly on us.

TENNIS UPDATE

The courts were prepared for the new season by Tennis Members, some volunteers and some Members from the Bowling Section. Grateful thanks to you all! We are also pleased that new fencing was erected by Stuart Gower of Fynewood, Dunoon, which completed the full circumference of the courts, and we are very grateful to him for all his help.

The Tennis Pavilion has been made more wind and water tight so can now be safely used.

As senior members numbers have been falling, it is good to see that after a leaflet drop was carried out locally, people of all ages have been expressing an interest and joining the club, including a welcome group of junior players. Tennis equipment (racquets, balls, etc) is available for use by members and visitors attending with members, and is stored inside the pavilion.

We still offer 'Come and Try' sessions for Bowling & Tennis at mutually convenient times.

We do not currently offer formal tennis coaching, but we are actively looking into being able to provide this as an optional paid service. The Tennis WhatsApp group is working well for folks to keep in touch either to pass on info or say when they are able to play.

A new update for the club is the Sum-Up machine that is available in the tennis pavilion that allows for card payments from visitors attending with members. Hopefully this will be accessible to all visitors in the near future, after some joinery work. The honesty box for cash is still in use on the pavilion door and accessible without needing a key.

We're hoping to organise some informal get togethers and tournaments over the season. It will be good to meet up with new members!

Peter, Pat & Jim aka 'Ignorance is Bliss'

Thanks to everyone who came along to our Quiz Night on Monday 4 August as part of The Dunoon Bowling Tournament entertainment programme.

It was great to see our regulars & a few new quizzers coming along.

Our resident quizmaster, Alison Tarkenter didn't disappoint as she again brought eight rounds of various topics for us to answer.

The lucky winners were "Ignorance is Bliss", Pat Webster, Peter Webster, Arthur Condy & Jim Elsby with a score of 100 points.

Coming second with 99 points were "The Volunteers", closely followed by "The Vital Sparks" with 96.

Thanks to everyone who provided raffle prizes & who supported our wee Club.

We look forward to welcoming you back.

EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL MEETING

An EGM was called on Monday 16 June 2025 due to President John Gow's resignation due to his relocation to the Glasgow area. We had also received Dougie Lauffer resignation as Vice President.

The meeting was well attended and thankfully we had no bother filling the posts. Jim Elsby (former President of the Club many times) offered to stand in as President until the AGM in February. With this post filled, Dougie Lauffer was happy to step back in as Vice President until then too, although he did want it minuted that he would not be standing as President in February.

Both Jim & Dougie were unanimously accepted by the members in attendance.

President Jim thanked the members for attending the meeting and gave a vote of thanks to the outgoing President for all the work he had carried out during his time at the Club. Dougie then presented John Gow with a token of the Club's appreciation on behalf of the members.

SAD NEWS

It is with great sadness that I advise of the passing of our ex member & friend Barry Chapman.

Barry & his wife Joyce were members of IBTC for several years & Barry was also on Committee for part of his time at the Club.

Barry passed away peacefully after a long illness.

The family would like to invite any of the members who remember Barry to a wee celebration of his life to be held in IBTC's clubhouse on Friday 30th May at 2pm.

The Club would like to send condolences to Joyce & family.

What a great day we had on Saturday 12 April for our 171st Opening Day.

Thankyou to everyone who helped in any way to make it the success it was. All the work was worthwhile & I think the visitors enjoyed it too. It was lovely to see so many kindred clubs members supporting IBTC.

Thanks to Derek Logue for speaking on behalf of kindred Clubs. Derek has supported our wee Club over many years & reminded us that he had spoken in behalf of kindred Clubs in 1995 (yes, 30 years ago). He does still have the newspaper cutting & photo which I'll share when he sends it to me.

It was extra special to welcome our friend & ex President Archie Tait back for a visit. It was like he'd never been away.

Now our Green & Courts are open, please take advantage & introduce a friend or two.
