Bowling News and Events

INTERNAL COMPETITION – 13th SEPTEMBER

Due to our annual Fish & Chip Friendly –v- Colintraive having to be cancelled due to a shortage of Colintraive bowlers, Committee decided to use the afternoon to host a new competition for members & friends. This was duly held in the form of triples & pairs, with the highest up team taking the trophy. The trophy in question was kindly donated to the Club by Jimmy Mitchell and will now be played for annually. We were delighted to welcome four Colintraive bowlers & one Dunoon Argyll bowler to join us on Sunday. The weather couldn’t have been kinder to us and, in fact, it was better than it has been over the past few months.

Following 3 games of 6 ends, with the bowlers retiring to the clubhouse for a refreshment after each game, the results were as follows:-

Runners Up – Irene McDonald; Andy Brown & Myra Campbell (Skip)

Winners - John Stewart; Donnie Scott & Dougie Black (Skip)

Well done to all those taking part & congrats to winners & runners up. Thank you also to Anselmo’s for providing the usual “piping hot” suppers following the game.

Thanks to Jimmy for providing the Club with the trophy and to Mary for presenting the trophy to the jubilant team!

(We still hope to welcome Colintraive back to Innellan next season though for our 8th annual F&C Friendly. After all, it was their turn to pay ?) Just saying like!!

GREAT EFFORT FROM JIM ELSBY & FRASER LAUFFER

(Photo courtesy of Harry D Smith)

Following a very busy week for all the Cowal Clubs participating in the Dunoon Bowling Tournament (Harry Gordon) it is great to report that our own Jim Elsby and his partner Fraser Lauffer (previously an Innellan member - now with Gourock Park) were runners up in the Gents' Pairs.

They had played well all week, but came up against it in the final against father & son pairing of Ryan & Callum Galbraith from Dunoon Argyll BC. Fraser & Jim put up a brave fight but it was just not their year.

Congratulations to Ryan & Callum, you played some great bowls and very well done to Jim & Fraser.

ARCHIE'S PAIRS AT INNELLAN BOWLING & TENNIS CLUB
(Sponsored by The Villagers’ Royal)

Sunday 2nd August – Venue Innellan Bowling & Tennis Club – Event – the very popular Archie’s Pairs, hosted once again by The Villagers’ Royal.

It’s hard to believe that this tournament is now in its 12th year and yet is as popular as ever, if not more so! The list for 24 Pairs fills in very quickly and there are always reserves, ready & waiting. We must be doing something right or it could be that everyone wants a wee practice on the Green in case they are drawn there during the Dunoon Tournament Week (especially the dreaded Rink 1).

Whatever the reason, we had a great day with some super games of bowls. It is also a chance to catch up with bowling friends from across the water, who come to Dunoon for the Tournament.

This years Semi finalists were:-

(1) Jim Wallace Jnr & Andy Scott (Skip) who took on Stewart McInnes & Stevie Scott (Skip)
(Stevie had come straight from his semi final in the Gents’ Singles at Ayr on Saturday and we would like to congratulate him in getting so far).

(2) Fraser Lauffer & Jim Elsby (Skip) –v- Sean Kemp & Willie Wilson (Skip)

Two keenly contested semi’s resulted with Stevie & Jims’ pairs qualifying to the final.

The final was a great game to watch and it was good to see so many bowlers waiting for the outcome.

It couldn’t have been a closer finish as the score was peels at the end of the 6 ends of bowling. The rules of this particular competition state if both pairs are drawn on shots on completion of their game, the winners are decided on a one-bowl per player play off. Cruel – yes but that’s the rules (which were explained at the beginning of the day).

Following delivery of Fraser, Stewart & Jims’ bowls, Stewart’s bowl was lying shot, resulting in Stevie not having to play his shot. The winners for 2015 were Stewart McInnes (Kirn & HQ BC) & Stevie Scott (Upper Cowal BC) with Fraser Lauffer (Gourock Park BC) & Jim Elsby (Innellan BC) being the worthy runners up.

Congratulations to all the bowlers who took part and thank you for supporting Innellan. A huge thanks to our ladies in the kitchen who worked very hard to keep everyone fed and to Jean in the bar for keeping them all watered.

Thanks also to Archie for the format & board on the day. He’s talking about making it a 2 bowl pairs next year. We’ll see!

Myra presented the prizes to the worthy winners and President Curly wished everyone a safe journey home.

Stewart McInnes reiterated Curly’s thanks and said that he always enjoys playing in this tournament and thanked his partner and all his opponents on the day.

Last but not in any way least, huge thanks to the Villagers’ Royal for their continued support.

Haste ye Back!

Myra – Secretary

SENIOR 4'S WINNERS AT CAMPBELTOWN

Our Senior 4's (Dougie Lauffer, John Stewart, Archie Tait & Ian McGrouther) qualified to the finals of the Argyll & Bute BA ties on Saturday 25 July at Campbeltown's Argyll Green.

Following a comfortable win in the morning, they had a bad start to the final and were 12 - 4 down after 9 ends.

They obviously had a team talk as they were back on peels at 12 after 12 ends. Next report I received was they were 14 - 12 up with 2 ends to go and then 18 - 12 up last end .

Well played boys and for coming back to take the trophy.

ARGYLL & BUTE FINALS AT CAMPBELTOWN - 25 July

Good luck to all the Cowal Bowlers travelling to Campbeltown to take part in the A&B Finals, especially to our Senior 4's. Go get 'em boys! The team is Ian McGrouther; Dougie Lauffer, John Stewart & Archie Tait.
We expect you to come back with the Cup as you are missing the Gala Day!!

ESSON CUP WINNERS 2015 - INNELLAN BTC

On Saturday 27th June, Kirn & Hunter's Quay BC hosted The Cowal Bowling Association's Esson Cup. This Cup is played for annually and is keenly contested locally.

The picture shows our happy chappies following the game, L - R, Dougie Lauffer, Ian McGrouther, Tommy McDonagh, John Stewart, Archie Tait, Donnie Scott, Tommy Morrow & Craig McDonagh.

The cup is proudly held by Drew McDonagh.

Well done boys and to Kirn & Hunters Quay BC for hosting the event.

BOWLS SCOTLAND DISTRICT FINALS - Sunday 21 June 2015

Lilian Mac Donald v Eileen Collings in Ladies Singles

The Committee is delighted to congratulate the following members who made it through to the Bowls Scotland District Finals on Sunday 21 June at Lady Alice BC.

Lillian MacDonald (Ladies Singles); David Morrison, Craig McDonagh & Archie Tait (Skip) (Gents’ Triples) and our Super Senior 4’s Ian McGrouther, Curly Black, Dougie Lauffer & Archie Tait (Skip).

Unfortunately, it just wasn’t meant to be and all three of our teams lost out to their opponents who just happened to play better bowls on the day.

We are proud of all of them for making it this far and I am sure that they will wear their runners-up medals with pride.

Well done to Eileen Collings (Bogleha BC); Helen MacVicar (UCBC) Stevie Scott (UCBC) & Keith Campbell, Dan Whyte, Alex Kennedy & David Beattie (Skip) (UCBC) who will all represent their respective Clubs and Cowal at the Scottish Championships at Northfield, Ayr in August.

A great day was had by all at Lady Alice BC and our thanks go to Bill Knox and Mary Watt for organising all our district games.

MIXED TRIPLES AT INNELLAN GREEN – 20 June 2015
Sponsored by “The Osborne”

Winners and Runners up
L to R: Runners up - John Donald, Anne Margaret Houston & Dougie Black (Dunoon Argyll BC) and winners Fraser, Lynn & Dougie Lauffer (Innellan)
(click picture to enlarge)

54 bowlers from Cowal, Bute & Colintraive congregated on Innellan Green to play for the Osborne Trophy. The morning started off quite misty and damp but by lunchtime, the sun had come out and it was a really pleasant afternoon.

The format for the day was 3 sections of 6 teams playing 5 games of 5 ends with the Section winners and the highest runner up triple overall going forward to the semi's. Lunch was prepared and served by Dave Rice and his staff from The Villagers’ Royal which was enjoyed by all.

A spider was held between lunches and this was won by Nigel Potts. The prize was a voucher for Anselmo’s/La Balena. I think you might be getting asked out for dinner Sam!

The Section Winners were (A) Anne Margaret Housing, Dougie Black & John Donald (Dunoon Argyll BC); (B) Margaret Marshall, David Gray & Archie Tait, (C) Myra Campbell, Dougie Cuninghame & Jim Elsby and the highest runner up overall was from Section C - Lynn, Dougie & Fraser Lauffer (all Innellan BC).

The raffle was then drawn before the semis commenced and this took some considerable time even though President Curly had Myra drawing the tickets with his usual military precision. Thank you for all the raffle prizes donated by members & visiting bowlers.

The semi between Jim Elsby’s triple & John Donald’s triple was a one sided game with Dunoon Argyll taking a “6” in the first end and the Innellan triple playing catch up. The other all Innellan semi was much closer and Fraser Lauffer won by one shot against Archie Tait.

The final between Fraser’s Innellan team and John’s Dunoon Argyll team was a fiercely fought battle. It must be said that Anne Margaret and Dougie gave John bowls into the head each end and at the last end looked like they would be the victors. Never say never to the Lauffers though and with some cajoling by Fraser to his Maw and Paw, they took the trophy for 2015. A great final to watch and thanks to all the bowlers who stayed behind to see the conclusion.

Congratulations to the winners and runners up and thanks to each and every bowler who took part, especially our visitors from Rothesay, Colintraive and Dunoon Argyll.

Peter from The Osborne was unable to attend to present the prizes but said that The Osborne was delighted to continue sponsorship of this tournament and sent his congrats to the winners. Thanks also to our member Dougie Cuninghame who also contributed to the prize monies.

Myra Campbellpresented the prizes and President Curly Black thanked everyone for coming along, the Villagers’ Royal for catering, The Osborne for sponsorship, Jean Morrison for her long stint in the bar, and Archie Tait for the board and format.

Fraser then reiterated Curly’s thanks and said that there were two parts to bowling, these being luck and skill and that he had the luck today to play with two skilful bowlers (what a SOOK!!).

Haste ye Back

PS – A wee mention to two very special “future members” who visited the Club today. These were Master Marshall McDonagh and Miss Leah Lauffer Congratulations to Craig and Marissa & Fraser and Lisa.

BOWLS SCOTLAND DISTRICT FINALS - SUNDAY 21st June

GOOD LUCK to all the Innellan bowlers who have qualified to the District Finals on Sunday 21 June at Lady Alice BC, Inverkip Road, Greenock.

Our representatives are:

LADIES SINGLES - Lillian MacDonald

GENTS TRIPLES - David Morrison, Craig McDonagh & Archie Tait

GENTS SENIOR FOURS - Curly Black, Ian McGrouther, Dougie Lauffer & Archie Tait

Well done to all, a great achievement to get this far and we wish you every success.

WESTERN FERRIES MIXED PAIRS SUCCESS FOR IBTC

Dot & Ian McGrouther were the winners of the Mixed Pairs Tournament held at Kirn during the week of 1st - 8th June (extended due to bad weather).

They played four games on consecutive nights and the final on 9th June to take the Western Ferries Trophy for 2015.

Congratulations to them. They worked very hard for this trophy, playing 78 ends of bowls! That is a lot of walking up and down the bowling green! Well done to them both. Another win for Innellan.

SUPER SENIORS

Our Gents Senior 4's have just gone and done it again - yes, they've reached the Bowls Scotland District Finals. They will take on Upper Cowal's finest 4 (the reigning Scottish Champions) on Sunday 21 June at Lady Alice BC.

Well done to Ian McGrouther, Curly Black, Dougie Lauffer & Archie Tait (the heavy team) - no pun intended

Come on boys, do your best. We're all behind you and hoping you'll get revenge for narrow defeats at the same stage by the same four in each of the last two years.

COUNTY TEAM
ARGYLL & BUTE LADIES -v- DUNBARTONSHIRE LADIES - FRIDAY 5th JUNE

The Ladies County game due to take place on Kirn & Hunter's Quay's Green on 5th June had to be hurriedly rescheduled due to flooding caused by the heavy rain.

Fortunately Innellan were able to step in and save the day.

All 48 ladies found themselves travelling to Innellan where Secretary Myra Campbell handed the Green over to the County for the duration of their 17 ends of bowls.

Thankfully the game went ahead with no rain or midges although it was a 'tad' chilly.

It was a pleasure to host this game and A & B's President, Bridie Ferguson thanked Innellan kindly for the use of their Green at such short notice.

She thanked Myra, Archie & Alex for their hospitality and the Green was duly handed back to Myra following the game.

Dumbartonshire won by 20 shots.

LADIES LEAGUE

It was Innellan's night to host the Ladies League tonight (28 May) and what a night it turned out to be. It started off chilly but not too bad following all the hail, rain & squally showers throughout the day but unfortunately the rain came on about 7 ends into the game. The 24 ladies got suitably attired in their wet gear and battled on. Then it cleared up once again only to come back with a vengeance about the 12th end. Not only were they soaked through but they were all freezing cold and this being the end of May! What's going on with our weather?

Following the game, the ladies couldn't wait to get into the clubhouse for their hot cuppa & wee sandwich/cake and they thoroughly deserved it.

Helen MacVicar advised that the league was now half way through and gave a run down of the points at present. It was wonderful to hear that Innellan are 2nd with 10 points after 4 weeks. All we have to do now girls it to keep up the good work and you never know!

Some pictures taken tonight of our ladies, smiling through even when they feel cold, wet & miserable. As the pictures show, we are still very lucky to be in such a lovely part of the country.

Why not come along and have a go. You too could be as happy as us!

PS - Happy Birthday Shirley Sykes

Secretary

TUESDAY EVENING CLUB WAPPENSCHAWS are well under way and despite the cool, damp and very unseasonable weather 26 members came along for an enjoyable evening of ‘social bowls’ on Tuesday 26th May. No doubt those enjoying the hospitality on board the cruise liner Royal Princess as she headed off down the Clyde to warmer climes thought us all mad but they probably weren’t bowlers.
These Tuesday evening sessions are open to all members and anyone who wishes to come along and try their hand at bowls for the first time or re-kindle their interest. All are welcome and the evening rounds off with coffee/tea and biscuits and an opportunity to have a chat.

NEIL McCORMACK MEMORIAL SHIELD
OPEN TOURNAMENT

24 members turned out to play for the Neil McCormack Shield on Saturday 23 May. The weather was surprisingly good considering the forecast and everyone had a fun filled afternoon.

The format was 15 ends of bowling with the highest scoring triple overall being the winners.

After 8 ends of bowls, everyone retired to the Clubhouse for a wee cuppa and then returned to complete the game.

There were 2 triples in contention and to say it was close was not exaggerating. The outcome was that Donnie Scott, Matthew Brown & Myra Campbell (Skip) with a score of 29 – 5 took the trophy for 2015. Well done to them and to Ian McGrouther’s triple for losing out by ONE shot (yes just the ONE Ian). The “booby” winners were Joyce Chapman, John Stewart & Tommy Morrow (Skip)

Thanks to Alex McDonagh & Nan Cook for preparing the afternoon tea and to Jacky & Matthew for help with the clearing up. Thanks too to all the ladies for the baking & sandwiches and to the members who brought along a raffle prize.

Another great wee afternoon.

MORE SUCCESS FOR INNELLAN BOWLERS

WINNER & RUNNER UP OF DUNOON ARGYLL’S LADIES DAY – 24 MAY

Following a great day’s bowling at Dunoon Argyll, 3 Innellan ladies - Myra Scott, Irene MacDonald & Myra Campbell - made it through to the Semi Finals in their respective triples.

Irene’s triple were then beaten and Myra Campbell’s triple took on Myra Scott’s triple in the final. A great game followed with Myra S’s triple being 3 up going into the last end and taking the trophy with her team. Fantastic day.

Runners Up at Upper Cowal Gents’ Triples

Well done to Dougie Lauffer, David Morrison & Ian McGrouther being the runners up in this keenly contested tournament. Another great day hosted by Upper Cowal BC on Sunday 25 May.

GEORGE CAMERON MEMORIAL GENTS’ TRIPLES – sponsored by Nan & Jim Cook

Play under way in a very wet George Cameron Trophy   George Cameron Memorial Trophy Winners
Stevie Scott, Edward Wallace, jnr, Eddie Wallace snr
  George Cameron Memorial Trophy Winners
with sponsor Nan Cook

18 triples competed in our Annual Gents’ Triples on Sunday 10th May at a very soggy Innellan. Unfortunately the sunshine we had on Saturday had disappeared and it rained, and rained and rained!

Bowlers from local Cowal Clubs and from, Lochgoilhead, Colintraive and even from overseas – (Rothesay), took part. A special wee mention to Andy Weir’s son Innes who was taking part in his first “Open” Tournament. Just 14 years old and keen as mustard. Well done Innes. I am sure you will soon be beating your Dad! Thanks for making Innellan your first “Open”.

After some very close games the Section Winners and semi finalists were Kirn & HQ’s David Loughlin, Jim Wallace Jnr & Andy Scott (Skip); Kirn & Upper Cowals’ Edward Wallace Jnr, Eddie Wallace Snr & Stevie Scott (Skip), Rothesay’s Alan Cowan, Johnnie Walker & John Gilchrist (Skip). The highest runner up overall was the triple from the host Club, Matthew Brown, Barry Chapman & Ernie Sykes (Skip).

The winners of the semis were the triples skipped by John Gilchrist & Stevie Scott.

Following the final, the winners of the George Cameron Memorial Quaich for 2015 were young Edward Wallace, Edward Wallace Snr & Stevie Scott. Huge congratulations to them and the very worthy runners up. Praise must be given to each and every bowler who participated in the tournament as the weather was testing to say the least.

The ladies did a great job of looking after 54 wet, hungry men. Thanks to Shirley, Myra S, Dorothy , Lilian and Nan and also to Jean for looking after their “liquid” intake to ensure they didn’t become dehydrated (as if!)

Thanks also to Archie for the “board”, Curly for organising & him & Myra C for the soup, Nigel for all his help and to everyone else who helped and I may have missed. Last but not in any way least thanks to Nan & Jim Cook for their continued sponsorship of this tournament. Without our sponsors, the Club would struggle.

Nan Cook presented all the lucky winners with their envelopes & the trophy to Eddie, Edward & Stevie.

Last word to our late member, George Cameron. He would have been watching down on Innellan Green and thinking “What’s all this moaning about, it’s only a bit of rain”. If George had been taking part he would have been out there with his bowling gear on, blazer and all, but no wet gear. That was just George and we wouldn’t have had him any other way.

MORE EARLY SEASON SUCCESS FOR INNELLAN AT BOGLEHA BC’S SENIOR OPEN PAIRS

Dougie Cuninghame & Myra Campbell (Skip) were fortunate enough to be the winners of the trophy at Bogleha’s annual Open Senior Pairs on Saturday 9th May.

7 teams from Innellan participated in the tournament in brilliant sunshine. The format of the game was 6 x games of 6 x ends and Dougie & Myra won all of their games. Great what a wee change of positional play results in!

Big thanks to Bogleha BC for putting on a great day and to the Co-operative Funeralcare for sponsorship of the event.
Rock on Innellan!

INTERNAL TIES

The Internal competitions have all been drawn and the draw is displayed in the Clubhouse. The draw can also be viewed on the Competitions page of this website and will be regularly updated with results. Please ensure that each round is completed by the date specified. If you think you will have a problem keeping to the timetable, please speak to Curly(gents) or Myra/Dot (ladies). There are lists of telephone numbers for Gents & Lady members displayed in the Clubhouse, so no excuses for not contacting your opponent!

BOWLS SCOTLAND TIES - Sunday 7th June

Innellan has been asked to host several Bowls Scotland ties on Sunday 7th June. The green will therefore be closed for all other play on that day.

EARLY SEASON SUCCESS FOR INNELLAN BOWLERS

Some 45 bowlers took part in the Kirn & Hunter's Quay Bowls Club annual gent's triples competition on Sunday 26th April. Having endured some less than favourable weather conditions the finalists were the Innellan teams of Dougie Lauffer, Tommy McDonagh and Jim Elsby against their club colleagues Archie Tait, Ian McGrouther and David Morrison. In what was an enjoyable match to watch Archie, Ian and David emerged the winners.

WAPPENSCHAWS

The Tuesday evening Wappenschaws have been going for 2 weeks now and with 25 bowlers taking part on Tuesday 21st, the members are getting right into the swing of it.

The actual "points" nights don't commence until Tuesday 5th. May but please come along any Tuesday at 6.45pm and you will be welcome to join in the game.

FIRST OPEN TOURNAMENT OF THE SEASON AT INNELLAN, SUNDAY 10TH. MAY.
Gent's Invitation Triples (George Cameron Memorial Quaich)

This will be held on Sunday 10th May, commencing at 10.00am. If you wish to enter please see the noticeboard in the Club or contact Myra Campbell, Secretary with your entry. The entry is restricted to 24 triples; a reserve list will be created after the first 24 entries are received.

LADIES BOWLING - LEAGUE, CENTENARY/ ARGYLL & BUTE

At the Cowal BA meeting last night, the issue of "Bowls Dress" was raised and it was stated that when representing your Club at any of these games, you must wear proper bowls dress i.e. Grey skirt, grey or black trousers, white bowls shirt or polo shirt, either bare legs or natural tights, Grey or white bowling shoes. In other words no black tights, no leggings, no tank tops/tee shirts etc. - If you are unsure please contact Myra Campbell.
Open Days etc. you can choose your own attire - to a certain extent, but on the days you play in A&B Ties, Cowal Ties, Scottish Ties & League nights, the Bowls Dress code must be adhered to.

HYSLOP LEAGUE

For the first time in many years, Innellan Gents will provide a full team to the Hyslop League. This has worked out well, as Upper Cowal BC now find themselves struggling for players and Ardentinny, who have joined Innellan over the past few years, are going to join up with Upper Cowal to enable them to continue competing in the League.

We must thank Ardentinny for their assistance through the past years and wish them well in the future with Upper Cowal, but not on the nights they meet Innellan :)

The League commences on Thursday 07 May with Innellan taking on Upper Cowal/Ardentinny. Venue will be confirmed beforehand.

The sun shone brightly on all those taking part in the David Drummond Trophy at Innellan Bowling and Tennis Club on Sunday, 13 September 2015. In this event, names are drawn out of a hat to make up pairs who then take part in both a bowling competition and a tennis match.

The winning pair this year were Charlie Weall and Liz Gower with runners up Meg Henry and Adah Lambie.

TENNIS TOURNAMENT 2015 at IBTC

On a decidedly cloudy, though not actually too wet afternoon, on Sunday 28th June, the Tennis Section played host to members of the Castle Tennis Club for a Mixed Doubles Tournament.
After a kind of round-robin first section, the final was eventually played between the pairing of Morag MacFarlane and Kyle Blincow, and Lynn MacFarlane-Quinn and Robin Henry, the latter pair being the winners.
It was a great afternoon of tennis, highly enjoyable, and the midges kept away too. Many thanks go to the Castle Tennis Club Members for making it such a great competition.

Innellan Bowling & Tennis Club held its Presentation Dance on Saturday 31 October in the Clubhouse of Dunoon Argyll BC.

A very respectable turnout of 38 members attended and enjoyed a splendid 3 course meal provided by Andrew and served by Donna, Michelle & Mary. Ian Wright carried out his bar duties very professionally and ensured that no one went thirsty for too long. The music was provided once again by Robert McGregor. Thanks to all of them and to DABC for the use of their lovely clubhouse.

Following the meal, President Curly said a few words and then invited Meg Henry, Tennis Convenor, & Myra Campbell, Club Secretary, to join him to present the prizes to the lucky winners.

Before the presentation commenced, he said that it had been a really good year for the Club and that the members had done themselves and the club proud with their achievements throughout the season. These included bowlers winning the Esson Cup, the Senior League and our Senior 4’s winning the Argyll & Bute. Innellan members had also won the Bogleha Senior Pairs, Kirn & HQ’s Western Ferries Mixed Pairs, Kirn & HQ’s Gents’ Triples & Innellan’s own Mixed Triples. Myra Scott had also been part of the winning triple at Dunoon Argyll’s Ladies Day.

Congratulations also go to the members who reached the Bowls Scotland District Finals. These were Lillian McDonald in the Ladies Singles, David Morrison, Craig McDonagh & Archie Tait in the Gents Triples, and Ian McGrouther, Dougie Lauffer, Curly Black & Archie Tait in the Senior 4’s. The tennis section was also congratulated on their continued success with the junior tennis members with thanks to Meg Henry, Ann Rhodes & Charlie Weall for all their efforts.

Meg Henry then presented the Tennis trophies and Myra the bowling ones. Our players of the year were named as Charlie Weall representing Tennis and Dougie Lauffer for Bowling.

Myra then asked President Curly to accept the Esprit de Corps Trophy which was donated to the Club by one of our longstanding sponsors, Jake McLay. This trophy is presented each year to a member who has shown outstanding dedication to the Club and there was no doubt that he was a popular recipient. He graciously accepted the Trophy.

There was an outstanding player in the tennis section with Liz Gower being a winner in the Ladies Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles & Drummond Trophy.

Thanks to all the members who turned out for the presentation. It’s great when things go to plan and hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves as much as I did, especially my Paolo dance with Dot!

Haste ye Back!

QUIZ NIGHT AT IBTC

Innellan Bowling & Tennis Club held a Quiz Night in the Clubhouse on Monday 3rd August as part of the entertainment for the Dunoon Bowling Tournament Week.

Although not as well attended as previous quizzes, it turned into a good wee night for those who did venture out.

With Teams with names such as “For God’s Sykes (no guessing there then); Surprise Surprise (in memory of Cilla), The Birmingham Thicks and The Unflappables, the fun began.

Do you know The longest month in the year? – I can only say they didn’t. Another one – who was the Roman God of wine & drinking and it wasn’t Dougie Black ?.

At half time, before supper was served, the scores were quite close (for most of the teams) but this all changed in the second half when The Unflappables took off and led the way till the end. They even burst into song with “Glad All Over” and other renditions.

The prizes of bottles of wine were duly presented to The Unflappables (Charlie Weall, Jack Hutcheon, Ann Narraway & Mags Marr).

Thanks for another enjoyable night at Innellan, to Myra for the Quiz, (with Alison’s assistance), Myra & Alex for the supper and to Jean for the bar (on her night off too).

Haste ye Back

Myra – Secretary

GALA DAY 2015

Our Gala Day, held on Saturday 25 July was a great success and raised a whopping ?1,300 for club funds.

The sun shone from morning till night and everyone seemed to have a good day.

Special thanks to all of our members who assisted in any way and to our sponsors who are listed on our Sponsors Page

A little special thanks to Euan Morrison who not only cooked burgers all day on the BBQ but prepared, cooked & served the helpers afterwards with a wonderful meal of BBQ’d marinaded ribs; chicken strips & sticky chicken wings & salads. Beautiful gooey delicious food and we certainly made a meal of it.

The attached pic is of our three young helpers on the day, Calum & Lennon Morrison & Lucas Campbell. Thank you boys, definitely bowlers in the making.

These events don't just happen and a special thanks must go to David Morrison for his tireless work in preparation of the Gala Day.

HARRY MATHIESON

It is with great sadness that we have to advise that Harry passed away on Friday 5th June.

Harry was a great ambassador for the Club and nothing was ever too much trouble. He was so proud to be part of IBTC and there was no prouder President, a role he took very seriously.

Harry's motto was "How do you spell bowling"? and his answer was F U N.

Our condolences go to Phyllis, Muir, Ross, & Scott.

R.I.P. Harry

Harry' s funeral service will be held at Matheson Church, Innellan at 10.15am on Wednesday 10 June, thereafter to Greenock Crematorium. Phyllis would like to invite any friends attending the Church Service back to the Osborne, Innellan for approx 1.30.

Secretary

A FOND FAREWELL

There was a large turn out at Bob’s funeral with the Club being well represented by many members who took the opportunity to remember and pay their respects to a loyal and keen member. Bob had participated eagerly and enthusiastically in club competitions as well as open competitions and the leagues and was well known in Cowal bowling circles.
He also donated generously to our Club’s open competitions.

We look forward to welcoming Margaret back to join us again once she feels ready to do so.

CHILDREN SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES

We welcome children to the Club and are always pleased to see them. However for their own safety children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times when in the grounds of the Bowling & Tennis Club. Please also remember that to comply with Police and local authority regulations children are not allowed in the bar area of the clubhouse.

If you are playing bowls or tennis and are not in a position to supervise your child(ren), you must arrange for another responsible adult to be available to do so.

This applies to members and visitors alike.

BAG PACKING DAY - FRIDAY 29th. MAY

A huge thanks to the members & friends of the Club who pariticipated in the Bagpacking Fundraising Event at Morrissons Supermarket on Friday 29 May.

David Morrison, Vice President, organised the event in Meg's absence.

The sum of ?460.08 was raised and the Club greatly appreciates the support of Morrissons & the kindness of those who donated.

(NB - If there had been more volunteers to "bag-pack", the sum could have been even higher, but this amount will go a long way to helping with equipment for the Tennis Section.)

QUIZ NIGHT - HELD ON FRIDAY 1st. MAY

Quiz Champions - 'The Peg Heads'  Mags Marr, Charlie Weall, Eleanor Stevenson and Kenny Stewart.

The Quiz Night held on Friday 1st. May was a resounding success. Nine teams participated and there was the usual banter between the quizmasters (Myra & Alison) and those taking part. At half time there was one team well in the lead and on completion of the Quiz, this was the winning team, albeit there were another two teams catching up.

A lovely supper was served at half time with plenty of home baking & the refreshments were flowing throughout the evening, courtesy of 'Oor Curly'.

Thanks go to Alison for assisting me with the Quiz and the raffle. Thanks to Myra S & Lillian who helped with the washing up and to the members & friends who provided the raffle prizes & the goodies. Following the raffle the prizes were presented to the winning team "The Peg Heads" consisting of Mags Marr, Kenny Stewart, Eleanor Stevenson & Charlie Weall". The runners up were our winners from last year, Susan & Robert Dodds & Gary Kirsop aka "One Man Down" and in third place were Ernie & Shirley Sykes with Betty & Eric aka "The Arran Pilot". Well done to everyone and thanks to all who supported our Quiz. Looking forward to the next one already.

OPENING OF THE GREEN & COURTS

The Club opened for the 2015 season on Sunday 12th. April. The weather was very kind to us and this enabled both bowling & tennis to commence. It was lovely to see the Green & Courts full of people having fun.

President Curly welcomed the large turnout of members, friends & kindred club visitors and said that he hoped to see them often through the season. He ialso mentioned our missing Tennis Convenor, Meg Henry, who was recovering from a Hip Op (or Hip Hop) and wished her a speedy recovery. He said that she would soon be Hip Hopping around the Courts. He introduced the table:- Councillor McNaughton; Ann Rhodes (Tennis Convenor); Myra Campbell (Secretary); Tom McKie & David Morrison (Vice President).
He thanked his Committee for their continued dedication to the Club and to all the members who had participated in any way to having the Green & Courts ready for today. Special thanks went to Derek Logue our Greenkeeper and to all of our sponsors who continue to support our Club. Another special mention went to David Gray, or his apprentice as he calls him, the oldest apprentice in Cowal.

Tom McKie, ex Chief Inspector of Strathclyde Police (now Police Scotland) officiated at the ceremony and gave a very warm speech about the Club in its early days and right up to its success today.Tom & his family lived in Innellan for 12 years and the community is close to his heart. Tom spoke to the success of the Junior Tennis Section and how important it was to encourage the youth of the Community to participate in these sports.

Another old friend of the Club, Councillor Alex McNaughton spoke on behalf of the kindred Clubs and said how much Colintraive enjoy visiting Innellan throughout the season. He said that they always get a warm welcome & that their members look forward to our annual friendly.

With the Green declared open, the rest of the afternoon passed by with a lovely spread by the ladies and a very large raffle (thanks to everyone who provided baking & raffle prizes).

The first toucher of the season today was Roddy Black from Colintraive BC and the winning triple on the day was David Singleton, Duncan Lauder & Jim Cook (Skip). They were all presented with an IBTC inscribed Easter Egg.

Well done to them, especially to David & Duncan (both new members to the Club) and to Jim our eldest member.

And with the 161st Opening Ceremony over, it's down to business as usual.
